Looking for a licence to drive a childcare or aged care centre mini-bus, a fruit market truck or a small delivery van or tow truck? Or you may have just bought a large utility or campervan like a Winnebago.

Armstrong’s light rigid course has been custom designed to develop vital driving skills and knowledge necessary to successfully gain your light rigid licence to drive any of the above vehicles.

This innovative and powerful training course is conducted over one day for approximately 8½ hours with a maximum client/trainer ratio of 3:1 delivered by highly qualified nationally accredited trainers in a motivational and educational environment.

What you will need to be eligible to do the course -

  • A current Victorian Driver’s Licence; held for a minimum of 12 months; a secondary form of ID is also required; please refer to Armstrong’s Terms & Conditions for details.
  • Be competent in the operation of a manual vehicle; and have obtained your licence in a manual vehicle.
  • Obtain a Victorian Bus and Truck Driver’s Handbook and study before the course. This can be purchased from Armstrong’s Office or downloaded via the VicRoads link or website.
  • Wear appropriate clothing, including fully enclosed shoes or runners.

What you will learn throughout the course -

  • Vehicle familiarisation and inspection prior to operation;
  • Critical skills in vehicle control, gear changing and manoeuvring, including cornering techniques and kerbside stops;
  • Safe driving techniques on hazard identification and approach;
  • Advanced observation skills and mirror use to enhance vehicle safety;
  • General road craft application including speed and lane selection to improve safety levels;
  • Extensive reference and relevance of theory to light rigid operation;
  • Critical reversing skills;
  • Practical application of ‘test exercises’ to help enhance the on-road assessment;

All training is conducted prior to any testing, maximising the training benefits to aid in the successful completion of the licence course.

Armstrong’s VicRoads accreditation means at the successful completion of the licence testing you will receive a Certificate of Competence* enabling VicRoads to issue your Light Rigid Licence so you can start your Transport Career!
